Horkin' all night long

The Dragon Quest Walking Dead enemy which made its first appearince in the series’s second title was originally localized as Hork. Definitely a more memorable name than Walking Dead, but where the hell did it come from?

Wikitionary and other dictionaries tend to have the first definition including “to foul up” or something. It is also used in place of vomit, which lines up with the feel of an undead and its vomiting attack which is a fairly common video game and zombie trope, but without the animations in Dragon Warrior 2, where would this knowledge come from?

So that seems like the likely reason for the naming. This is assuming that this definition of hork was in common enough usage in the time of the game’s localization.
