Games I beat in January 2014

manual12So let's try something different this year. Not only will I track the games I complete but also now the ones I buy and sell. This should keep me more conscious of what is going on in my game library. Particularly as digital becomes more of a thing as it is harder to track, and as I proved to myself this month, easy to abuse.

Games I beat

  • 2014.01.01: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  • 2014.01.21: Famicom Remix
  • 2014.01.28: Final Fantasy 8 (Replay)

There is a real joy to finishing a game on the first of the year. Last year I cleared Simon’s Quest and beginning this year with The Adventure of Link. Clearing it washed away twenty plus years of thinking about this game in the back of my mind. An intense feeling of relief came. Famicom Remix was great. Finishing Final Fantasy 8 got me closer to my goal of replaying all of the Final Fantasy games again. As for what I am working on at the moment, FF9 is loaded on my Vita, my 3DS is chock full of games that I need to focus a bit more on, and the Super Famicom is doing its work to get me to finally work on the Breath of Fire series. I might need to take a quick divergence into a non-RPG game pretty soon. But strike while the iron is hot, eh?

Games I bought

  • 2014.01.01: The Last Remnant
  • 2014.01.01: _Ys The Oath in Felghana
  • 2014.01.01: Ys I and II Chronicles
  • 2014.01.01: Ys Origin
  • 2014.01.01: Don’t Starve
  • 2014.01.02: Sakura Taisen 1 + 2
  • 2014.01.10: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
  • 2014.01.15: Metroid Prime Wii
  • 2014.01.18: Rockman X5
  • 2014.01.18: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Director’s Cut
  • 2014.01.18: Shadow Hearts 2
  • 2014.01.18: Tales of the Tempest
  • 2014.01.20: Dokuro (Gift.)
  • 2014.01.28: Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (Free from Nintendo.)

Eep. How did this happen?

Well, Steam. I jumped in on a sale for the Ys games, grabbed The Last Remnant so I would have a copy, and added Don’t Starve since it put me up to enough to get two Steam trading cards! Which… Disappeared? Or something? I guess I did not read up enough on it. Whoops. Lesson learned.

Then there is a place nearby going out of business. This means stuff for prices I will probably not see for a while. So while I may not get to any of them this year, they got into my library at a nice price. Kind of like a Steam sale except I see them on my shelf so I think about playing them. Then a copy of Dokuro from a friend who could not get more than ¥100 from a store. And Nintendo is giving out free games. Yippee!

I need to get my butt moving on a Windows install before I play the bulk of those Steam games. X5 I would like to hold off on until I find a decent copy of X4. What I might play soon is Metroid Prime or A Link Between Worlds. Point is, I have plenty on my plate already for the rest of the year.
