I sit here with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on, my parents sitting with my son, my wife getting ready for bed, myself thinking about the holidays. Tis the seasons to flip the switch. Starting tomorrow it is Winter 2.0, the time where it is just cold and building up to warm, not the holidays. I enjoy the time up until Xmas, but the evening feels bittersweet. There is a line in Christmas Vacation that I had never given much though tot before. It goes something like “You always build up holidays to something that cannot ever happen.”
Managing expectations is difficult and something that I am still working on. I can remember an empty feeling at the end of even a Magic tournament. But as I see my son giggling and smiling, I realize how lucky I am.
Merry Xmas, everyone.
